Abstract
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate hypertension knowledge, diabetes mellitus knowledge, self-efficacy, and self-care in the middle-aged Lao women.

Methods: The design of this study was a descriptive study. A total of 88 middle-aged Lao women participated voluntarily in this study. The study variables were measured by the each scale for the hypertension knowledge, diabetes mellitus knowledge, self-efficacy, and self-care respectively. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, & ANOVA.

Results: Mean score of hypertension knowledge was 6.43¡¾1.92 (possible range 0¡10), mean score of diabetes mellitus knowledge was 7.19¡¾2.35 (possible range 0 ¡10), mean score of self-efficacy was 753.6¡¾156.66 (possible range 100¡1000), and mean score of self-care was 35.87¡¾7.32 (possible range 10-50). Diabetes mellitus knowledge had statistically significant differences according to educational level and economic status (F=4.439, p=.003, t=-2.300, p=.024). Self-efficacy and self-care were higher in participants who work as a government employee (F=2.817, p=.044, F=3.751, p=.014).

Conclusion: It is necessary to develop an effective nursing intervention using these base line data to reduce the risk factors for NCDs.
